The Potomac School Panthers will square off against the Jackson-Reed Tigers at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Jackson-Reed will be up against a hot Potomac School team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. The Panthers' pitchers stepped up to hand Maret a 15-0 shutout on Thursday. Give the Panthers' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Meanwhile, Jackson-Reed had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over the Colts.
Alex Nehrer made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on London Cullins, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Grace Harscheid, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Jackson-Reed always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .581 or higher in seven consecutive games.
Potomac School's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Jackson-Reed, they now have a winning record of 7-6-1.
Potomac School took their victory against Jackson-Reed in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
