It was a perfect week for the MaxPreps power rankings: not a single team changed position in spite of last week's action. We'll dive into that and more in this week's report.
Can't Touch This
Olathe North got a 24 - 21 win over East last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Daymonn Sanchez`. Sanchez` ran for 258 yards and also punched in one touchdown. That performance landed Sanchez` among the top power-ranked players for the week.
Can't Stop Won't Stop
Lathrop has been an offensive powerhouse for six straight weeks after the team lit up the scoreboard again last week. Everything went its way against Lawson as it secured a 41 - 6 win. Lathrop did have the odds in its favor, but the team did even better than the MaxPreps state rankings indicated. With 12 consecutive wins, Lathrop boasts the longest winning streak of any team in the rankings.
No Stoppin 'Em
Blue Valley North and Gardner-Edgerton went up, up, and away last week as they combined for the highest point total (77) among all power ranked teams. Blue Valley North took its contest against Gardner-Edgerton by a conclusive 49 - 28 score. Despite the outcome, neither team improved or gave up its position in the power rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Blue Springs (5th in the power rankings) and Rockhurst (1st). The teams have their eyes fixed on the championship after last-week playoff conquests. Only one team will win this week, so we'll find out which team fails to repeat its success.
