This season hasn't been kind to the Mattamuskeet Lakers, who are still winless after their eighth contest. They took a serious blow against Cape Hatteras on Friday, falling 59-14. Mattamuskeet was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-7.
Despite the loss, Mattamuskeet still got an impressive performance from Kensley Cox, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. That was a full 71.4% of Mattamuskeet's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Mccoy, who scored no points along with eight rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Mattamuskeet struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Cape Hatteras posted 17 assists.
Cape Hatteras' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kylie Philips, who scored 16 points along with three steals and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Paizley Schultz, who scored 17 points.
Mattamuskeet dropped their record down to 0-8 with that defeat, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Cape Hatteras, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mattamuskeet will take on the Trailblazers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Eastern Christian HomeSchool will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Cape Hatteras, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Dolphins at 6:30 p.m. Ocracoke is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
