The Winnfield Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Red River Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Winnfield is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Winnfield fell victim to Many's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Tigers on the road and fell 49-0. The last quarter was a mere formality, since the game's final score was reached by the end of the third quarter.
Red River fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They took their contest at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 68-14 win over Lakeview. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 46-14.
Red River got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Montreveun Smith out in front who rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Smith was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 66 yards. Terrell Gary was another key contributor, rushing for 113 yards and two touchdowns.
With Winnfield's loss and Red River's victory, both teams now sport identical 2-5 records.
Winnfield was able to grind out a solid victory over Red River in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, winning 20-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Winnfield since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
