The Highland Prep Honey Badgers proved they can win big last Saturday (they won by 49) but on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 41-39 win over Phoenix Christian. The win made it back-to-back wins for Highland Prep.
Highland Prep's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Trinity Alfaro led the charge by scoring 20 points. Another player making a difference was Anahi Nunez, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Highland Prep's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-10. As for Phoenix Christian, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Highland Prep will take on Mountainside at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mountainside comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Phoenix Christian, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against St. John Paul II Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on January 24th. St. John Paul II Catholic will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
