On Saturday, the Dakota Valley Panthers faced the Groton Tigers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Dakota Valley snuck past Groton with a 62-57 victory. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Dakota Valley has scored all season.
Jaxson Wingert continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Dakota Valley's points. Logan Collette was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Dakota Valley's win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Groton, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3.
Dakota Valley will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Elk Point-Jefferson at 8:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Dakota Valley's favor as the team sits on 14 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Elk Point-Jefferson has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road. As for Groton, they will take on Deuel at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Groton knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 matches -- so hopefully Deuel likes a good challenge.
