The Rampart Rams will head out on the road to take on the Fountain-Fort Carson Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Rampart is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Doherty on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Rampart took a blow against Doherty, falling 92-57. The Rams were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-22.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Isaiah Melecio, who went 6 of 8 en route to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Theodore Wilson, who went 6 for 8 on his way to 17 points.
Even though they lost, Rampart smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Fountain-Fort Carson was not able to break out of their rough patch last Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 67-39 loss at the hands of Pine Creek. That's two games in a row now that the Trojans have lost by exactly 28 points.
Rampart will have to keep a close watch on Alex Rivera and Sean-Paul Cruz, a pair of players who had a big impact on Fountain-Fort Carson's prior game. Rivera posted eight points, while Cruz earned 11 points.
Fountain-Fort Carson's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Rampart, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Rampart has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 29.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Fountain-Fort Carson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 23.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Rampart beat Fountain-Fort Carson 61-48 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Does Rampart have another victory up their sleeve, or will Fountain-Fort Carson turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
