Basketball Recap: East Jordan Falls Despite Big Games from Max Beal and Korbyn Russell

East Jordan was the 49-47 winner over St. Philip Catholic Central when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The East Jordan Red Devils fell to the St. Philip Catholic Central Fighting Tigers 51-47. The game marked the Red Devils' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

East Jordan's loss on Friday came despite strong showings from Korbyn Russell and Max Beal. Russell went 6 of 13 en route to 15 points and six rebounds, while Beal posted ten points and seven rebounds. Russell's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ellis Malpass, who put up seven points and five rebounds.

East Jordan's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for St. Philip Catholic Central, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Jordan will venture away from home to take on Inland Lakes at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for St. Philip Catholic Central, they will square off against Hillsdale Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hillsdale Academy will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something St. Philip Catholic Central surely won't give up without a fight.
