Baseball Recap: Adrian Has No Trouble Against Columbia Central

Adrian barely beat Columbia Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Maples were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Golden Eagles on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Maples, who have now won nine matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Tyler Bruggeman and Joelden Griffin did most of the damage at the plate: Bruggeman got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs, while Griffin went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Bruggeman has become a key player for Adrian: the team is 10-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-10 otherwise. Landon DeKeyser was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Adrian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Columbia Central only managed five hits.

The victory made it two in a row for Adrian and bumps their season record up to 15-11. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Columbia Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-4.

Looking ahead, Adrian will host Vicksburg at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Columbia Central, they will head out to challenge Grass Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
