The Bad Axe Hatchets will venture away from home to face off against the Sandusky Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Bad Axe barely beat Vassar the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hatchets were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over the Vulcans on Thursday. The Hatchets' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Jackson Wolschlager and Mason Hurley made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Wolschlager pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Hurley didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. Wolschlager also tossed no walks, which is notable because Bad Axe is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-9 otherwise. At the plate, Wolschlager went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Hurley went 4-for-5 with five stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Wolschlager a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grant Smith, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Ryan Gordon also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Bad Axe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Sandusky came tearing into Saturday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Wildcats. That's two games straight that the Wolves have won by just one run.
Nathaniel Tovar made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Hunter Bush and Blake Bowerman did most of the damage at the plate: Bush went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double, while Bowerman went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Jack Betts, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Bad Axe's record now sits at 4-10. As for Sandusky, their record is now 12-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Bad Axe has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Sandusky struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Bad Axe couldn't quite get it done against Sandusky in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 as they fell 5-2. Can the Hatchets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
