The Montevideo Thunderhawks will venture away from home to face off against the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Montevideo will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
Montevideo proved they can win big on Friday (they won by ten) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out New London-Spicer 3-2.
Griffin Epema was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Ben Gunlogson was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sauk Centre). They came out on top against B O L D by a score of 14-10 on Friday.
The team relied heavily on Evan Zales, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Warring, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Sauk Centre always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Montevideo pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Sauk Centre, their record is now 4-11.
Everything went Montevideo's way against Sauk Centre in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Montevideo made off with a 6-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Thunderhawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
