Baker is a perfect 6-0 against Destin since February of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Baker Gators will host the Destin Sharks at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Destin's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Monday: Baker hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. Baker never let Rocky Bayou Christian get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory on Thursday.
Abigail Griffin made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Griffin was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other pitching news, Bayleigh Jernigan looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Baker got a massive performance out of Zoe Moncada, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, three runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Layla Bendickson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Baker kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rocky Bayou Christian didn't got any hits.
Meanwhile, everything went Destin's way against Mosley on Thursday as Destin made off with an 11-1 win. With that victory, the Sharks brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.
Like Baker, Destin also got a great game from a two-way player: Aspen Benscoter. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. With that strong performance, Benscoter is now averaging an impressive 5.6 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Destin let Breanna Williams and Anita Palmer run wild. Williams scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Palmer scored three runs while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Keelie Ellis, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Baker's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. As for Destin, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Baker has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .685. However, it's not like Destin struggles in that department as they've averaged .459. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Baker took their victory against Destin in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-4. Does Baker have another victory up their sleeve, or will Destin turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
