Stanton is 7-2 against Plainview since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Stanton Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Plainview Pirates at 6:00 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Stanton posted their biggest victory yet this season on Saturday. Everything went their way against Lyons-Decatur Northeast as Stanton made off with a 56-30 win. Given Stanton's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while Lyons-Decatur Northeast is ranked 254th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Stanton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rebecca Stoddard, who scored 19 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Stoddard has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelby Pohlman, who scored 15 points along with five assists and three steals.
Meanwhile, Plainview was able to grind out a solid win over West Holt on Tuesday, taking the game 47-39. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Plainview.
Abbie Kromarek was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Plainview's points. Teya Boyer was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Stanton's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Plainview, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Monday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Stanton have been dynamite from deep this season, having only nailed 35.4% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Plainview, though, as they've only made 34.2% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
