The Hamilton Yankees had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 59-57 victory over Fairfax on Friday. The victory was just what Hamilton needed coming off of a 78-56 defeat in their prior game.
Rhys Nelson was the offensive standout of the matchup as he went 7 for 13 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points and 2 assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Miles Moore, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds.
Hamilton's victory bumped their record up to 8-14. As for Fairfax, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost 13 of their last 14 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-18 record this season.
Hamilton will be playing in front of their home fans against Westchester at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Westchester presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Hamilton in California (Westchester is ranked 222nd, while Hamilton is ranked 706th). Fairfax won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Village Christian at 6:00 p.m. on January 20th. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Village Christian has three straight wins, Fairfax has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
