III Section VII recap November 5, 2013
Desert Edge added to the longest winning streak in III Section VII this week by beating Agua Fria, 55-16. The victory was the 10th in a row for the Scorpions.
Youngker lost to Shadow Ridge 57-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Elijah Marks had an awesome week catching the football as Desert Edge beat the Owls. He caught 12 passes for 324 yards.
K.J. Sells was a key player and the best on defense this week as Rich Wellbrock's team bested Agua Fria. The 5-foot-9 senior grabbed 2 interceptions.
Anthony Hernandez threw for 471 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was 21-28 with 0 interceptions.
Rico Tipton was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 121 yards on 16 carries as the Stallions topped Tony Cluff's team. Teammate Chris Salsberry added to the ground attack by rushing for 85 yards.
Desert Edge's Hernandez and Marks have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-8 quarterback Hernandez has thrown for 3,399 yards this season, while Marks has 86 catches for 1,802 yards. Salsberry from Shadow Ridge leads the league in rushing with 1,671 yards.
Accruing a total of 11 touchdowns this year, Eric Ruiz has thrown for 1,857 yards with 7 interceptions.
Rico Tipton's team led III Section VII in scoring this week after putting up 57 points on the Roughriders. Tipton ran for 121 yards and caught 1 pass for 15 yards during the win.
