Even though the Mineral Ridge Rams have not done well against the McKinley Red Dragons recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Mineral Ridge came out on top against McKinley by a score of 61-52. This was payback for Mineral Ridge, who suffered a 74-58 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Mineral Ridge found their leader in underclassman Chase Moore, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 21 rebounds. Moore is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. Jackson Geddes was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Stef Dorsey and True Carey-Hardin certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Dorsey scored ten points along with six steals, while Carey-Hardin scored 18 points along with two blocks. That's the first time this season that Carey-Hardin posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Avon Fryer, who scored nine points.
Mineral Ridge's win bumped their record up to 5-9. As for McKinley, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mineral Ridge will stay at home for another game and welcome McDonald at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. McKinley will take on Poland Seminary at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Poland Seminary presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than McKinley in Ohio (Poland Seminary is ranked 197th, while McKinley is ranked 699th).
