The Gulfport Admirals suffered their biggest loss since January 2nd on Friday. They were dealt a 60-31 defeat at the hands of Biloxi. While losing is never fun, Gulfport can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 158th, while Biloxi is ranked 14th).
Biloxi found their leader in underclassman Zaniya Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 15 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Johnson has scored at least a third of Biloxi's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nakenya Terry, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Gulfport has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-19 record this season. As for Biloxi, they pushed their record up to 22-4 with that victory, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gulfport won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Bay at 5:00 p.m. on January 27th. Bay will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak. As for Biloxi, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Ocean Springs at 6:00 p.m. Ocean Springs has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 28.
