The Lutcher Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Newman Greenies at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lutcher has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Last Friday, Lutcher humbled the Gators with a 74-38 victory.
Meanwhile, Newman waltzed into their match on Thursday with three straight wins but they left with four. They enjoyed a cozy 68-53 win over Terrebonne. Given Newman's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Tigers are ranked 116th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Newman's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Todd Jones, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Jones is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last three games he's played. Tayden Langdon was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Lutcher's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-13. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Newman, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-10 record this season.
Things could have been worse for Lutcher, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 69-52 loss to the Greenies in their previous meeting back in February of 2023.
