Softball Recap: Downey Has No Trouble Against Paramount

Downey won the last time they faced Paramount and things went their way on Thursday too. The Vikings were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Pirates. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Leilani Kaiwi Gonzales spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Delilah Navarro, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jiselle Rocha, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Downey hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 12-3 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The win made it two in a row for Downey and bumps their season record up to 16-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Paramount, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season.

Downey wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 17-6 win against Lakewood on the 2nd. Paramount does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
