West Oso is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. After each having a week off, they and the Palacios Sharks will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. West Oso is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
West Oso will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating San Diego, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Bears came out on top against the Vaqueros by a score of 21-14 two weeks ago. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but the Bears were the (much) better team in the second half.

A big part of West Oso's win came down to the chemistry between Ryan Guerrero and his top target Joseph Perez. Guerrero rushed for 136 yards and one score while Perez picked up 48 receiving yards and one touchdown. Those 136 rushing yards gave Guerrero a new career-high.
West Oso's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB six times. The heavy lifting was done by Matthew Guerrero and Trajhaun Vurns, who racked up five sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Palacios hadn't done well against Danbury recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way two weeks ago. The Sharks breezed past the Panthers to the tune of 55-0.
Palacios' win came from a few key players West Oso will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Austin Martinez, who rushed for 190 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 62 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Alex Weaver was another key player, rushing for 122 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries.
Palacios didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Trey Weixelman and Tristan Perez, who each picked up one interception apiece.
Palacios' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for West Oso, their record now sits at 3-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. West Oso has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 234 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Palacios struggles in that department as they've been averaging 241.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
West Oso lost to Palacios on the road by a decisive 21-6 margin in their previous meeting back in September of 2024. Can the Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
