The Modesto Christian Crusaders had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.2 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They blew past Laguna Creek 90-67. Modesto Christian's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Gavin Sykes had an outrageously good game as he scored 31 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Rashod Cotton, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Laguna Creek lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sonai Murphy, who scored 17 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Murphy has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kj Ramey, who scored 19 points.
Modesto Christian's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points per game. As for Laguna Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Modesto Christian won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Tokay at 7:30 p.m. on January 3rd. Tokay knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven games -- so hopefully Modesto Christian likes a good challenge. Laguna Creek on the road again on Friday and play against Burbank at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th. Burbank is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 58.7 points per game.
