Anna Dornbach was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Payton Hisel was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Kaiya Kraner, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Kettle Moraine had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They blew past the Indians 12-5.
Briella Hack spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sarah Marcheske, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Casey Navarro was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Kettle Moraine pushed their record up to 13-8 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Waukesha West, their loss dropped their record down to 14-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Waukesha West hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Kettle Moraine struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Waukesha West came up short against Kettle Moraine in their previous matchup back in April, falling 12-7. Will the Wolverines have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
