The Firth Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Wendell Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Firth had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt North Fremont on Tuesday. The Cougars put the hurt on the Huskies with a sharp 13-1 win. The victory was familiar territory for the Cougars, who have now won four games in a row.

Darrell Vasquez made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Vasquez was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Firth's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Firth let Grant Vasquez and Cooper Park run wild. Vasquez scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Park scored a run while going 1-for-2. Vasquez has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Tonk Perry was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wendell). They walked away with a 12-9 win over Gooding on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Senators: they've now won four in a row.
Gunner Jones was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Jones was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Julian Ponce and Chip Houser did most of the damage at the plate: Ponce went 2-for-4 with one home run and three runs, while Houser scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Zayden Rogers also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Wendell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Firth's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Wendell, their record now sits at 3-4.
Everything went Firth's way against Wendell in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Firth made off with a 12-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
