The Peyton Panthers will be playing at home against the Dolores Huerta Prep Scorpions at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Peyton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
Last Friday, Peyton strolled past the Meloneers with points to spare, taking the game 64-46. Given Peyton's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while the Meloneers are ranked 309th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Peyton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bryce Love, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that Love scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trent Gregg, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Dolores Huerta Prep, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 58-41 loss to the Kodiaks on Saturday.
Despite their loss, Dolores Huerta Prep saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Artrell Mccullar, who scored 19 points along with two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Mccullar is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 18 or more in the last four games he's played. Zech Maldonado was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
The win makes it two in a row for Peyton and bumps their season record up to 10-6. As for Dolores Huerta Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.
Wednesday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Peyton have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 41.8% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Dolores Huerta Prep struggles in that department as they've made 45.8% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Peyton against the Scorpions in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 78-47 victory. With Peyton ahead 43-21 at the half, the game was all but over already.
