GOODYEAR, Ariz. - In spite of trailing
Saguaro (Scottsdale, Ariz.) 18 points,
Desert Edge (Goodyear, Ariz.) surged back to grab a 38-35 win over
Saguaro (Scottsdale, Ariz.) Saturday.
The Sabercats pulled ahead on a
Christian Kirk touchdown run, and subsequently went into halftime leading 21-3. The Scorpions scored the winning points with a
Kyle Woolard touchdown run that came in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring 21 points in the third, Desert Edge still trailed by 4 points going into the fourth quarter. But 14 points in the fourth helped DE pull out the victory.
The Goodyear school's standout player in the win was
Sawyer Lung. The senior quarterback threw three touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored 11 touchdowns on the season.
Luke Rubenzer played well for Saguaro. The junior quarterback threw three touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to 14 on the year.
The defeat comes as a step back for Saguaro, which notched a 42-14 victory over Cactus in its previous outing.
