Platte Canyon and Middle Park are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Huskies will look to defend their home field on Monday against the Panthers at 3:30 p.m. Platte Canyon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Platte Canyon made easy work of Cripple Creek-Victor and carried off a 19-7 win. The Huskies haven't had any issues with the Pioneers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Nathan Laabs made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Laabs was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Platte Canyon got a massive performance out of Jerod Horta, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Horta is becoming a predictor of the Huskies' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Layne Karashinski, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Platte Canyon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Middle Park lost 11-1 to Alameda on Thursday.
Middle Park saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gunnar Bjerken, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double and one RBI.
Platte Canyon's win bumped their record up to 2-7. As for Middle Park, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-5.
