They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 44-21 walloping at the hands of Pioneer. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-0.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Caleb Torres, who picked up 132 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Torres was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 66 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jose Ipina, who rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown.
Leading Pioneer to victory were Julian Valdez and Dylan Tijerina. Valdez rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown, while Tijerina rushed for 115 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries. Tijerina is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. Leo Espinoza Jr. did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 94 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Pioneer, their win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1.
