Basketball Game Preview: Tri-County Cavaliers vs. North Newton Spartans

The Tri-County Cavaliers are taking a road trip to square off against the North Newton Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Saturday, Tri-County beat Caston 42-35. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cavaliers.

Tri-County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Trey Foster, who posted ten points and three blocks. Those three blocks gave Foster a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Grayson Schneider, who went 6 for 12 en route to 12 points and six boards.

Meanwhile, North Newton hadn't done well against Rensselaer Central recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. North Newton had just enough and edged Rensselaer Central out 45-42. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Spartans have posted since December 18, 2023.

North Newton's win came from a few key players Tri-County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jackson Alexander, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 18 points. Jared Kutsch was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

North Newton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Tri-County now has a winning record of 8-7. As for North Newton, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-13.

Tri-County strolled past North Newton in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a score of 57-42. The rematch might be a little tougher for Tri-County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
