It was a good run, but the Lincolnton Wolves unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a 69-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ashbrook. While losing is never fun, Lincolnton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while Ashbrook is ranked 23rd).
Despite the loss, Lincolnton still got an impressive performance from Lj Smith, who dropped a double-double on 33 points and ten rebounds. The game was Smith's ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Khamoni Heath, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds and three blocks.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ashbrook to victory, but perhaps none more so than Issac Byers Jr, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Byers Jr is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Kenneth Greene Jr, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Lincolnton's defeat dropped their record down to 8-1. As for Ashbrook, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Lincolnton is on the road again on Thursday and play against Stuart W. Cramer at 10:30 a.m. on December 28, 2023. Stuart W. Cramer is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. Ashbrook won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Bandys at 4:30 p.m. on December 28, 2023. Bandys has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 660 points over their last nine games.
