Muhlenberg County has gone 6-1 against Grayson County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Mustangs will face off against the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Muhlenberg County not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 14th (when they won 13-0). They were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over McLean County.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Grayson County). They blew past Butler County 20-10 on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Cougars sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Jake Bratcher made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Gage Napier was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cameron Fulkerson, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Grayson County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Muhlenberg County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Grayson County, their record is now 13-11.
Muhlenberg County took their victory against Grayson County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
