Central has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Fivay Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
On Friday, Central suffered a tough 52-27 defeat at the hands of Nature Coast Tech. Central was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-10.
Central's defeat came about despite a quality game from Delanee Duncan, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Leilani White, who scored four points.
Meanwhile, Fivay came up short against Wiregrass Ranch on Thursday and fell 40-33. Fivay has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jordana Montaner Rodgers, who scored 15 points along with four steals. The matchup was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Melany Garcia, who scored seven points along with four steals.
Central bumped their record down to 0-8 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.6 points per game. As for Fivay, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Central have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 9.6 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Fivay, though, as they've been averaging only 39 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Central was taken down by Fivay 85-17 when the teams last played back in January of 2021. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Central was down 51-6.
