The Hopewell Blue Devils will head out on the road to challenge the Fleming Colonels at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopewell is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
Hopewell pushed their score all the way to 58 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Thomas Dale by a score of 60-58. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Hopewell has suffered yet this season.
The losing side was boosted by Shawn Long, who scored 28 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Nick Byrd, II, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, even though Franklin County scored an imposing 73 points on Friday, Fleming still came out on top. Fleming snuck past Franklin County with a 78-73 victory. Given Fleming's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while Franklin County is ranked 262nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hopewell's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-3. As for Fleming, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-5.
