Baseball Recap: Metamora Takes a Loss

Metamora easily dispatched Orion last Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Redbirds fell just short of the Galesburg Silver Streaks by a score of 9-7 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Redbirds have suffered since May 1, 2024.

Metamora got a good showing from Trevor Chapman, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits Chapman has allowed since back in May of 2024.

At the plate, Drew Lueddecke and Stephen Petri did some serious damage despite the final result: Lueddecke scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Petri scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Lueddecke continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Mason Sauder also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Metamora now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Galesburg, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 2-3.

Metamora wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 7-1 defeat against Peoria Notre Dame on the 28th. As for Galesburg, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 8-1 loss against McHenry on the 29th.
