The Seventy-First Falcons's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Purnell Swett Rams at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. Seventy-First will be strutting in after a win while Purnell Swett will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Friday, Seventy-First didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Gray's Creek, but they still walked away with a 50-45 win. The win was just what Seventy-First needed coming off of a 67-43 loss in their prior contest.
Seventy-First's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kariana Williams, who scored 17 points along with seven steals. Williams has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mariyah Massey, who scored nine points along with 13 rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, Purnell Swett's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They suffered a rough 50-26 loss at the hands of Fairmont. While losing is never fun, Purnell Swett can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 270th, while Fairmont is ranked 74th).
Seventy-First's win bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Purnell Swett, they have fallen quite a ways from their 24-6 record last season and are now at 3-7.
Seventy-First took a serious blow against Purnell Swett when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 67-34. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Seventy-First was down 30-9.
