Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 15 to 6 on the offensive boards, a fact the Norwich Free Academy Wildcats proved on Thursday. They came out on top against Bacon Academy by a score of 49-36. This was payback for Norwich Free Academy, who suffered a 46-31 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Leading Norwich Free Academy to victory were Nevaeh Yorke and Emily Orcutt. Yorke scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and five steals, while Orcutt scored 13 points along with eight rebounds. Yorke continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Brooke Stringer was another key contributor, scoring five points along with two steals.
Bacon Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Skyelyn Schoen-rene, who scored 14 points along with three steals and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Katelyn Novak, who scored 11 points.
The victory got Norwich Free Academy back to even at 5-5. As for Bacon Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Norwich Free Academy will take on Griswold at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Griswold is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Bacon Academy, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Simsbury at 2:30 p.m. on January 13th. Simsbury is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
