Baseball Recap: Port Gibson Comes Up Short

Port Gibson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the O'Bannon Greenwaves. That's two games in a row now that the Blue Waves have lost by exactly four runs.

Michael Evans put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off two hits. Evans was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Terrance Evans was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has become a key player for Port Gibson: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Centrell Hedrick, who scored a run and stole five bases.

Port Gibson's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for O'Bannon, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Port Gibson will take on Hazlehurst at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for O'Bannon, they will challenge Riverside at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
