Softball Recap: Rockledge Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Rockledge entered their tilt with Sebastian River on Thursday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. They came out on top against the Sharks by a score of 10-5. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-4 back in February.

Haley Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gizelle Arteaga was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 5-for-5. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Aiyana Sandy, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4.

Arteaga wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Rockledge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sebastian River only managed four hits.

Rockledge pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Sebastian River, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-5 record.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rockledge will face off against Master's Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sebastian River, they will take on Key West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Key West's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Sebastian River's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
