The Jefferson Area Falcons will take on the St. John Fighting Herald at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Jefferson Area lost 11-4 to Madison on Tuesday. The Falcons haven't had much luck with the Blue Streaks recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Jefferson Area saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tate Hudson, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Another was Michael Riffle, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. John). They were the clear victors by a 30-1 margin over Lordstown on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Fighting Herald, who have now won nine games by ten runs or more so far this season.
St. John got a massive performance out of Ezra Campbell, who went 3-for-4 with seven RBI, three runs, and three doubles. Those three doubles gave Campbell a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dyln Newsome, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs, three RBI, and one double.
St. John always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .724. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
St. John pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Jefferson Area, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Jefferson Area hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. However, it's not like St. John struggles in that department as they've averaged .462. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Jefferson Area couldn't quite get it done against St. John in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-1. Will the Falcons have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
