Deer Park is 10-0 against Pasadena since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Deer Park Deer will look to defend their home court against the Pasadena Eagles at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Deer Park has five straight wins, Pasadena has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Deer Park posted their biggest win since December 19, 2023 on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Dobie with a sharp 57-31 victory. Given Deer Park's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 433rd, while Dobie is ranked 962nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Deer Park relied on the efforts of Jostlyn Soto, who scored ten points along with five steals, and Erin Goodson, who scored 11 points along with six steals and five assists. Goodson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 14 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Ripley, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, Pasadena came up short against Dobie on Saturday and fell 41-31.
Despite the loss, Pasadena saw an underclassman step up: Caryme Molina scored nine points along with ten rebounds and four steals. Molina has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Yvette Torres, who scored four points along with ten rebounds.
Deer Park's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-13. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Pasadena, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-18 record this season.
Tuesday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Deer Park have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 28.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Pasadena struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 29 rebounds per game. Given Deer Park's sizeable advantage in that area, Pasadena will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Deer Park against Pasadena when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 49-13 win. With Deer Park ahead 27-5 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
