Franklin is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They will host the Sheldon Huskies at 4:00 p.m. Franklin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Franklin earned a 10-7 win over St. Mary's.

Leilani Garcia
03/26/25 @ St. Mary's | 9 |
03/11/25 @ Folsom | 7 |
02/25/25 @ Granite Bay | 6 |
02/18/25 @ Del Campo | 6 |
02/14/25 vs Lincoln | 6 |
Leilani Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Franklin let Kalani Phearson and Leah Pham run wild. Phearson scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Pham scored a run while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs Phearson has posted since back in February. Julissa Sandoval was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
Franklin hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Mary's struck out nine times.
Meanwhile, Sheldon entered their tilt with Monterey Trail on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 5-2. That's two games straight that the Huskies have won by exactly three runs.
Miyani Marshall was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Marshall is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Sinitalela Heleta also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Sheldon's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Franklin, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Franklin hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Sheldon struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Franklin was able to grind out a solid win over Sheldon when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 7-3. Does Franklin have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sheldon turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
