Baseball Recap: Four Straight Home Victories for Southwest

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Belen Jesuit, Southwest was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Palmetto Panthers 3-2. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Euclides Alvarez tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Southwest is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 4-5 otherwise.

At the plate, Southwest saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ajay Perez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Anthony Reyes also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Southwest's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Palmetto, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southwest will welcome Coral Reef at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Palmetto, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Immaculata-La Salle at 3:30 p.m.
