Bishop Ireton is 0-10 against Paul VI since March of 2018 but things could change on Wednesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Bishop Ireton Cardinals take on Paul VI Panthers at 6:00 p.m. The last three games Bishop Ireton has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Monday, Bishop Ireton narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Episcopal 4-3.
Bishop Ireton got a great performance from Cash Griffy as he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits.

On the hitting side, Thomas Foley was excellent, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Antonio, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Paul VI). They put the hurt on Hilton Head Island with a sharp 14-1 win on Saturday. The Panthers not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 30, 2024.
Landon McGinn looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Owen Peltier, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. He also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ryan Bahr, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Paul VI was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Paul VI is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. The victory got Bishop Ireton back to even at 2-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Bishop Ireton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Paul VI struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Bishop Ireton might still be hurting after the 8-0 defeat they got from Paul VI when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Bishop Ireton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
