3A Mid-State recap Oct. 16, 2012
Northern Guilford extended the longest winning streak in 3A Mid-State this week by beating Rockingham County, 42-7. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Nighthawks.
Western Alamance was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. Earlier in the week, the Warriors defeated Eastern Guilford 49-15.
Eastern Alamance's dynamic duo of Josh Long and Malik Wilson proved tough for McMichael to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Long threw for 284 yards and four touchdowns and Wilson had 115 yards receiving. Zach Littell helped Eastern Alamance's passing attack out by catching four balls for 61 yards.
Jameion Harvey was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 23 carries, he ran for 354 yards as Williams topped the Phoenix. Teammate Tereak McCray added to the ground attack by rushing for 55 yards.
Eastern Alamance's Long and Wilson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 3A Mid-State in both passing and receiving yards. Long has thrown for 1721 yards this season, while Wilson, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 20 catches for 583 yards. Northern Guilford's T.J. Logan leads the league in rushing yards with 1430.
The Cougars' Austin Dixon needs only 88 yards against John Kirby's team next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 112 carries Dixon has accumulated 912 yard this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Rockingham County takes on the Eagles. At the moment, Lin Stadler's team is in fourth, while Eastern Alamance is in second.
The Bulldogs took down Morehead 42-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Harvey in the win.
