Video: Ivan Rabb wins the Open Division title
See the most important free throws in all of California this seasonAnother season of Northern California basketball has come and gone with triumph for some and tears for others. We saw some great basketball played throughout the region, but here are the individuals that stood out and made the biggest impression.
The MaxPreps 2014-15 All-NorCal Basketball Teams are based on media input and playoff impact.
Player of the Year: Ivan Rabb, Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland), 6-foot-11, SeniorA
MaxPreps NorCal Player of the Year repeat winner and the San Francisco
Chronicle Player of the Year, Rabb averaged 24 points, 16 rebounds and
4.5 blocked shots. His last-second free throw lifted O'Dowd past Mater
Dei (Santa Ana) for the CIF State Open Division championship.
Coach of the Year: Lou Richie, Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland) A Dragons alum who is forever pained by his waved-off near buzzer beater in the 1988 state title game, Richie finally celebrated. O'Dowd was unbeaten against California competition and went wire-to-wire as NorCal Preps' top-ranked team in leading one of the Bay Area's greatest teams.
FIRST TEAMG - Paris Austin, Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland), 5-11, Sr. A repeat pick and the San Francisco Chronicle's co-Player of the Year with his buddy Rabb, Austin was a difficult cover, racing past teams or pulling up for jumpers in averaging 17 points. He willed O'Dowd to the CIF State Open Division championship.
G - Jordan Ford, Folsom, 6-1, Jr.A repeat selection by MaxPreps and a two-time Sacramento Bee Player of the Year, Ford led The Bee's top-ranked team into the NorCal Open playoffs, falling to O'Dowd in a semifinal. Ford averaged 22 points. He was the Sierra Foothill League co-MVP with Jordan Brown of rival Woodcreek.
F - Marquese Chriss, Pleasant Grove (Elk Grove), 6-9, Sr.A three-year starter who helped the Eagles win the CIF Division I title as a sophomore, Chriss dominated his final prep seasons before he heads to Washington. Chriss averaged 18.7 points and 11.6 rebounds for a playoff team in earning Sacramento Bee first-team honors.
F - Anthony Townes, Modesto Christian, 6-6, Sr.The Modesto Bee Player of the Year was a four-year starter who averaged 19.7 points and 10 rebounds for a Crusaders team that won another Sac-Joaquin Section title and reached the NorCal Open Division final.
C - Ben Kone, Archbishop Mitty (San Jose), 6-9, Jr.The San Jose Mercury News Player of the Year, Kone averaged 20.2 points, 11.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks for the powerhouse Monarchs in improving under the coaching/mentorship of coach Tim Kennedy. Kone powered Mitty to the NorCal championship and into the CIF Division II title game.
SECOND TEAM
Noah Blackwell, Woodcreek

G - Noah Blackwell, Woodcreek (Roseville), 6-1, Sr.A four-year starter headed to Long Beach State and a Sacramento Bee first-team selection, Blackwell had his finest season as a senior, averaging 18 points and taking his team into the NorCal Division I finals.
G - Stefan Mitu, Monte Vista (Danville), 6-1, Sr.Leading a team that was ranked in the top three in Northern California by MaxPreps much of the season, Mitu scored on a variety of jumpers and bombs in leading the Mustangs to a North Coast Section Division I repeat and into the NorCal Open playoffs for the first time.
F - Oscar Frayer, Moreau Catholic (Hayward), 6-6, Jr.The Cal commit led his team back into the NorCal playoffs, this time into the prestigious Open Division round, averaging 18 points and 11 rebounds.
F - Carlos Johnson, El Cerrito, 6-4, Jr.Known to play like Charles Barkley with inside power and the ability to blast down the floor despite his regal frame, Johnson was the key to a team that returned to the Open Division playoffs.
C - Joshua Patton, Sierra (Manteca), 6-8, Sr.The Stockton Record Player of the Year is headed to Sacramento State. Patton averaged 15 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots for a program that won its first Sac-Joaquin Section title.
THIRD TEAM
Isaiah Bailey, Jesuit

G - Isaiah Bailey, Jesuit (Carmichael), 6-3, Sr.A third-year starter and a Sacramento Bee all-Metro pick, Bailey was a dominant scorer for a traditional power. He averaged 23 points, scoring inside and out, and he was a leader.
G - Keith Smith, San Ramon Valley (Danville), 6-0, Sr.An unsung leader on a team full of them, Smith was paramount in leading the upstart program to its first CIF Division I championship.
F - Chris Hansen, Campolindo (Moraga), 6-7, Sr.Known for his good hands, big body, soft touch and desire to achieve, Hansen powered the Cougars to the NorCal Division III championship and into the CIF finals in earning San Francisco Chronicle first-team honors.
F - Jesse Hunt, Drake (San Anselmo), 6-6, Sr.A year after a dominant season for a powerhouse program, Hunt was even better, averaging 16 points and 10 rebounds for another playoff team.
C - Jordan Brown, Woodcreek (Roseville), 6-9, Fr.The most impressive first-year player to emerge in Sacramento in decades, Brown immediately boosted the Timberwolves into a NorCal presence, reaching the Division I finals. He averaged 22 points and 11 rebounds.
FOURTH TEAM
Solomon Young, Sacramento

G - Jordan Ratinho, De La Salle (Concord), 6-4, Jr.The East Bay Athletic League co-MVP, Ratinho powered De La Salle back into the NorCal playoffs as a tough-minded, versatile leader.
G - Christian Ellis, Modesto Christian, 6-3, Jr.A first-team pick by the Modesto Bee, Ellis averaged 13.1 points and 6.8 rebounds and was a terrific defender for the second-best team in Northern California.
G - Eric Toles Jr., Cosumnes Oaks (Elk Grove), 6-4, Sr.A skilled, tough guard who could handle the ball, shoot and drive to the bucket, Toles averaged 22.2 points to give the Wolfpack a dynamic 1-2 punch with running mate
Jaaron Stallworth.
F - Kyle Roach, Marin Academy (San Rafael), 6-4, Sr.The nation's No. 4 scorer this season at 35.8 points per game, Roach was a pest against defenses designed to slow him down. None could.
F - Solomon Young, Sacramento, 6-7, Jr.A Sacramento Bee first-team selection, Young averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Metropolitan Conference champions that lost heartbreakers to Modesto Christian in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II finals and to Mitty in the NorCal title game. Scores of Pac-12 teams are recruiting him.
FIFTH TEAM
Curtis Witt, Saint Francis

G - Sayeed Pridgett, El Cerrito, 6-4, Jr.The leading scorer for the San Francisco Chronicle's No. 2-ranked team, Pridgett averaged 17 points for a team that returned to the NorCal Open Division playoffs.
G - Curtis Witt, Saint Francis (Mountain View), 6-2, Jr.A first-team pick by the San Jose Mercury News, Witt led the Lancers to the West Catholic Athletic League title and into the NorCal Open Division playoffs as the floor leader for a balanced team.
G - Armani Collins, Stuart Hall (San Francisco), 6-5, Sr.A big-time scorer for a small-school power, Collins averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 rebounds in a dazzling senior campaign.
F - DeAndre Stallings, Liberty Ranch (Galt), 6-7, Sr.Improving each year and helping keep the team together after the tragic death of teammate Ryan Stover on the eve of the season, Stallings averaged 25.6 points for a team that reached the NorCal D-IV playoffs.
C - Robinson Idehen, Modesto Christian, 6-9, Jr.A Modesto Bee first-team honoree, Idehen averaged 14.2 points and 8.1 rebounds and played beyond big in the playoffs for a NorCal Open Division finalist.
