The Purnell Swett Rams will face off against the Jack Britt Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Purnell Swett is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Purnell Swett didn't have quite enough to beat Cape Fear and fell 5-4. The loss continues a trend for the Rams in their meetings with the Colts: they've now lost five in a row.
Lanna Haggans and Nylah Johnson did some serious damage despite the final result: Haggans went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Johnson went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Shaniya Lewis, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Jack Britt fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Lumberton on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 7-6.
Madisyn Norton spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Ashanthy Marcano made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Sophie Casagrande was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Even though they lost, Jack Britt kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in three consecutive matchups.
Purnell Swett's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Jack Britt, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Purnell Swett hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .370. However, it's not like Jack Britt struggles in that department as they've averaged .384. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Purnell Swett took their victory against Jack Britt when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-6. Will Purnell Swett repeat their success, or does Jack Britt have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
