The Hobgood Charter Raiders will head out on the road to square off against the Bear Grass Charter Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hobgood Charter is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
Last Friday, Hobgood Charter came up short against Columbia and fell 35-25. Hobgood Charter has not had much luck with Columbia recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Janiya Blanding was Hobgood Charter's leading scorer, having posted ten points.
Lilli Braddy held things down on the boards with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Bear Grass Charter put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Ocracoke 65-9 on the road. Given Bear Grass Charter's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while Ocracoke is ranked 568th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bear Grass Charter relied on the efforts of Aubrey Dotson, who scored 12 points, and Hylee (Al) Jarrett, who scored 13 points along with five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Carolina Harrell, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Hobgood Charter has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season. As for Bear Grass Charter, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-5.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Hobgood Charter have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 20.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Bear Grass Charter, though, as they've been averaging only 35.9 rebounds per game. Given Hobgood Charter's sizeable advantage in that area, Bear Grass Charter will need to find a way to close that gap.
Hobgood Charter suffered a grim 43-18 defeat to Bear Grass Charter in their previous matchup back in January of 2022. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Hobgood Charter was down 26-4.
