Hillside had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Everything went their way against the Durham School of the Arts Bulldogs on Friday as the Hillside Hornets made off with a 17-3 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Hornets as it spelled an end to their ten-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Evan Marciniak was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Marciniak was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Caleb Williams was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with six RBI, four runs, and two triples. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in triples. Quamay Palmer was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
Hillside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .425. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Durham School of the Arts only posted a batting average of .217.
Durham School of the Arts now has a losing record of 1-2.
Coming up, Hillside will venture away from home to take on Southeast Raleigh at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Durham School of the Arts, they will welcome NCSSM: Durham at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
