Baseball Recap: Mandarin Wins Going Away Against Stanton

Mandarin was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Stanton on Monday. The Mandarin Mustangs blew past the Stanton Blue Devils 12-2. Considering the Mustangs have won five games by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Jack Bernard spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.

At the plate, CJ Murphy was a standout: he scored three runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Mandarin's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Cole Rusak, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3.

Murphy wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Mandarin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for Mandarin: they were averaging 4.7 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.8.

Mandarin has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. Stanton now has a losing record of 6-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mandarin will face off against Bolles at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mandarin's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Bolles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Stanton, they will take on Covenant School of Jacksonville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Stanton has given up an average of 7.1 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
