Plymouth and Mapleton are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Big Red will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Mounties at 5:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Plymouth's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Mapleton has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
If Plymouth beats Mapleton with six runs on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Big Red walked away with a 6-2 win over Western Reserve on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Big Red in their matchups with the Roughriders: they've now won four in a row.
Lincoln Distl made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Keegan Beverly, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Plymouth's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-3 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jarrett Burrer, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Mapleton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out South Central 2-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Tyson Welch spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Gabe Wrobleski was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That double was his first of the season.
Plymouth's win bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Mapleton, they moved to 6-15 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Plymouth has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mapleton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Plymouth took their win against Mapleton in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 13-3 score. Do the Big Red have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mounties turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
