Portola is 0-10 against Quincy since May of 2022 but things could change on Tuesday. The Tigers will face off against the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. Portola is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.2 runs per game this season.
Portola is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 victory over Modoc.
Kyra Carlson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits.
On the hitting side, Ainsleigh Pruitt was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Williamson, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Quincy waltzed into their game on Friday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Wolves. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matches by six runs or more this season.
Jemma Trueblood was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Gay, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Adrian Goulet, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.
Quincy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive contests.
Quincy pushed their record up to 21-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Portola, their win bumped their record up to 16-10-1.
Both Portola and Quincy just can't seem to miss. The Tigers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Quincy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Portola might still be hurting after the 20-4 loss they got from Quincy in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
